Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness money benefits Stark, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas agencies
Trustees of the Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation have granted $197,490 to 14 nonprofit groups in Stark, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas counties.
The following groups received grants:
• American Red Cross, Canton, $2,390 to buy two automatic electronic defibrillators for their response trailers.
• Christian Children's Home of Ohio, Wooster, $5,000 to make mental health services accessible to poor uninsured individuals.
• Community Services of Stark County, Canton, $6,000 to provide a program to integrate wellness education clients' care.
• Eastern Ohio AED Initiative, New Philadelphia, $3,000 to buy two automatic electronic defibrillators to be placed in Tuscarawas County sheriff's cruisers.
• Habitat for Humanity, Canton, $12,500 to help enable a family with physical disabilities to live independently.
• Lighthouse Love Center, Millersburg, $9,000 to defray utility costs at the food pantry.
• Meals on Wheels, Massillon, $20,000 to buy a dishwasher for its commissary.
• New Beginnings Recovery House, Canton, $25,000 to match a HUD grant for maintaining two buildings.
• Prescription Assistance Network, Canton, $50,000 for prescription access and assistance for the poor.
• The Robert T. White School of Practical Nursing, Alliance, $1,600 to buy an automatic electronic defibrillator.
• Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured, Dover, $20,000 for start-up costs for the clinic.
• Village of Baltic, $13,000 to build a helipad to assist in emergencies.
• Wayne County Underwater Search and Rescue Unit, Wooster, $10,000 to replace dive team equipment.
• Western Stark Free Clinic, Massillon, $20,000 to provide medical care via its 40-foot mobile Care-A-Van.
In addition, Austin-Bailey provides $4,000 scholarships to students at Stark State College of Technology, Malone University, Kent State University Stark Campus, Kent State University Tuscarawas Campus, and Walsh University.
A student at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine also receives a $6,000 scholarship from the foundation.
All of the scholarships are for students enrolled in a health-related field.
The foundation has two grant cycles each year. Deadlines for submitting grant proposals are June 30 and Dec. 17. The foundation can be reached at 330-580-2380.
